It’s Friday, I’m in Manhattan, and it’s time for cocktails. Of the New York’s five boroughs, only Staten Island doesn’t have a cocktail named after it. Of the other four we’ve all heard of the Manhattan, but what about The Brooklyn?
David Embury, author of The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks, is less than impressed with The Brooklyn. He writes, “…even in Brooklyn there are at least five to ten times as many Manhattans consumed as there are Brooklyns. Try them both and you’ll understand why.”
Still, let’s give it a shot. Here’s the recipe.
60ml Straight rye whiskey
20ml Noilly Prat dry vermouth
2 Dashes Amer Picon
2 Dashes Luxardo maraschino liqueur
Add all ingredients into a mixing glass. Stir with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a cocktail cherry.
